WP4’s infrared
thermometer measures the difference in temperature between the
sample and the block. Temperature plays a critical role in water
potential determinations. Most critical is the measurement of the
difference between sample and dew point temperature. If this
temperature difference were in error by 1°C, an error of 8 MPa
would result. In order for water potential measurements to be
accurate to 0.1 MPa, temperature difference measurements need to be
accurate to 0.005 °C. Temperature control is from 15° to
40°C.To study the effects of temperature on the water
potential of a sample,to compare the the water potential of
different samples independent of temperature or other water
potential studies where temperature control is critical. Also to
minimize extreme ambient temperatures fluctuations. WP4 T is useful.
